What's new on Laces

New features, improvements and fixes on the Laces website and app, for organizers and participants.

    Age limits for events

You can now set a minimum and a maximum age in the event details in the Laces app. Both are optional.

The event page shows the age range, for example “Ages 9–25”. The age group choices on the registration form only cover that range, so participants can’t pick a group the event doesn’t admit.

Clearer earnings and withdrawals in the app

Order amounts in the Laces app now show what participants paid for their tickets, without the Laces fee that participants pay on top. The same amount is used in the order list, the sale feed, the participant list and exports.

Before you withdraw, the app now explains the withdrawal fee. Your first withdrawal for each organization is free, as listed on the pricing page.

This release also polished screens across the app, with larger tap targets and more consistent layouts.

    Camps as an event type

Camps and retreats are now an event type on Laces. Pick “Camp” when you create the event, and its page and registration use wording that fits a camp.

    Ask your own registration questions

You can now write your own questions for your event’s registration form in the Laces app. Add several at once, edit them later, and choose which ones are required.

Participants answer them when they register. The answers appear on each order in the Laces app.

    Event agendas

You can now add an agenda to any event in the Laces app. Type it in, or paste a schedule you already have and the app suggests sessions you can edit. Sessions can have speakers and photos.

Participants see a preview on the event page and the full agenda on its own page. During the event, the current session is highlighted, and a “Jump to today” link goes straight to the right day.

The agenda page has a QR code you can download and print on the programme, and a share block for WhatsApp and social media.

Shirt colours and sizes on tickets

If your event comes with a shirt or kit, you can now list the colours on offer in the Laces app. Participants choose a colour and a size on the registration form. Size is required.

Each participant’s colour and size appears on their order, in your participant list and in exports. That makes it simple to plan your order with the printer and to hand out the right kit on the day.

    The Laces API for developers

The Laces API lets a website you control list your events and ticket types and take registrations and mobile money payments.

    • Three ways to check out: send buyers to a Laces payment page, open checkout in a window on your page, or build your own form.
    • API keys from the app: owners and admins create keys in the Laces app and choose what each key is allowed to do.
    • Webhooks: your server is told when an order is paid, fails or is refunded.

The API costs nothing extra. Participants pay the same fee at checkout as they do on Laces. The documentation is at docs.laces.run, and laces.run/solutions/developers explains what you can build.

Export your orders as CSV, Excel or PDF

Each event in the Laces app now has an Export screen. Pick CSV, Excel or PDF, and the app builds a file with the event’s orders and participants.

The PDF opens with a summary of the event’s numbers, so it is ready to share with your team.

    Easier app updates

When a new version of the Laces app is out, the app now lets you know and takes you to the update. On Android, you can install the update from inside the app.

The app also has a new launch screen.

Choose which registration fields are required

Organizers can now mark questions such as gender and age group as optional when they set up an event in the Laces app.

On the registration form, optional questions show a “No answer” choice. Participants register faster when they only answer what the organizer really needs.

    Several tickets in one order

Registration now asks whether you are buying a single ticket or several. One order can hold several ticket types, so a family or a team can register together and pay once.

Organizers see every ticket in the order in the Laces app.

Since 22 October, an order can hold up to 15 tickets of the same type.

    Notifications in the Laces app

The Laces app can now send push notifications. Organizers hear about new registrations and payments without opening the app.

Every notification also lands in an inbox in the app. Notifications are grouped by day, and you can mark them all as read.

Organizer contacts and distances on event pages

Every event page now has the organizer’s contact details: a phone number to call, an email address and a WhatsApp link. The same contacts go out in the confirmation email, so participants know who to ask about the event.

Organizers set these contacts in the Laces app.

Events with distances, such as runs, rides and swims, can now list each distance on offer. Participants see every distance on the event page before they register.
